Prof. Elaine Dennison

Elaine Dennison is a Professor of Musculoskeletal Epidemiology and Honorary Consultant in Rheumatology within Medicine at the University of Southampton. Having worked as a Principal Investigator of the Hertfordshire Cohort Study for many years, her research interest centres around musculoskeletal aging, specifically osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and sarcopenia. Professor Dennison has served on many national and international committees, including the International Osteoporosis Foundation Committee of Scientific Advisers, the Australian and New Zealand Bone Mineral Society Council, The British Society of Rheumatology Biologics Steering Committee (Chair), the British Society of Rheumatology Heberden Committee, The Royal Osteoporosis Society Grants Committee (Chair), the Versus Arthritis Research Committee and the Bone and Tooth Society Committee. She has received prestigious awards from the IOF (Pierre Meunier and Olof Johnell awards) and the British Society of Rheumatology (the Michael Mason award). Professor Dennison has a particular interest in academic training, and serves as NIHR IAT lead for Wessex and sits on the SAC Rheumatology as the academic representative. Professor Dennison has worked as principal investigator of many research studies, including the Hertfordshire Cohort Study, and has published more than 400 original scientific publications, mainly in the research field of musculoskeletal aging. She is Associate Editor of Frontiers in Endocrinology and a member of the Editorial Boards of several journals including Osteoporosis International, Journal of Developmental Health and Adult Disease, and the Clinical Medicine Journal of the Royal College of Physicians.
