Professor Willem F Lems has been a rheumatologist since 1993, and Professor of Rheumatology since 2008, with particular focus in “Metabolic Changes in Patients with Rheumatic Diseases” at the Amsterdam UMC in the Netherlands. He is the current Educational Officer of the Amsterdam Rheumatology and Immunology Center. He is a member of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) Committee of Scientific Advisors and of the IOF Capture the Fracture® Governance. His areas of research include metabolic bone changes in rheumatic diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, Ankylosing Spondylitis), early treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (including patient reported outcomes, imaging and multiple drug resistance), and osteoarthritis, particularly targeting phenotypes in knee and hip-osteoarthritis. Professor Lems has published extensively, with around 475 PubMed publications to date.
