Fracture healing - The hows
How do fractures heal? How do you assess fracture healing? How do you hasten fracture healing?
While many diagnosed fractures heal with appropriate management, delayed or non-healing is estimated to occur in 5-15% of cases. A poorly healed fracture can lead to significant long-term morbidity. Moreover, the financial burden associated with non-union of fracture is enormous due to the increased healthcare costs and loss of work productivity.
In this course, Professor Chandran will review the current understanding of fracture healing. She will explain the key points of diagnosis as well as the effects of the currently available medications for osteoporosis on fracture healing.
Key Learning Objectives of this course include:
- To review the biology of fracture healing
- To recognise the clinical and radiological signs of healing fractures
- To review the efficacy of osteoporosis medication on fracture healing
