Inequalities in hip fracture and potential solutions – learning from the UK context
Each year, over 70,000 older adults break their hip in England and Wales. Unfortunately, socially deprived individuals may be more likely to experience hip fractures and face greater challenges in their recovery journey, magnifying the urgency for targeted interventions to address these disparities and improve outcomes for all members of society.
In this course, Professor Celia Gregson will review how varying levels of deprivation across the UK influence how people recover from hip fractures. She will present the results of analyses of different parameters such as length at hospital stay, recovery of mobility, discharge from hospital, return to place of residence (versus move to a care home), re-hospitalization, and mortality.
Key Learning Objectives of this webinar include:
- To understand the relationship between levels of deprivation and recovery outcomes following hip fractures among older adults in the UK
- To gain insights into the regional variations in hip fracture incidence rates across England and their association with socioeconomic factors
- To review evidence-based strategies and potential solutions for addressing inequalities in hip fracture incidence and recovery outcomes
